One of the significant sources of benzene exposure is mainstream cigarette smoke, which accounts for around half of all benzene exposure worldwide. Smoking is responsible for 90% of benzene exposure in smokers. Benzene can also be found in paint remover, glues, adhesives, and cleaning chemicals. Low quantities of benzene are found in outdoor air due to passive cigarette smoke, gasoline pollutants, vehicle exhaust, and industrial pollution.
